Road Block

Road Block

The Road Block is our flattest and hottest portion of Nevaeh Vineyard.  While it can be the most challenging in a wet year due to the dense clay soils and flatter aspect, in dry years we can get truly exotic and hedonistic wines from the Road.  The denser clay forces roots to stay more surfaced and leaves the wine as a more fruit forward, yet tannic expression.  In those dry years when the concentration is richer, the balance with the tannins is truly superb.  In great years like 2007, 2010, and 2012 a bit more of this fruit will be designated toward Nevaeh, but traditionally its fruit forward and exotic style is more suited to our Long Bomb and Charval blends.  The Road block is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon (planted in 1991, 1992, and 2007), Merlot (planted 1991 and 2004), Chardonnay (planted 1992), Cabernet Franc (planted 1991), and Syrah (planted 2004), and in 2013 we planted Tannat and Petit Verdot where we used to have Chambourcin, Vidal, and Seyval.  The total acreage of the Road Block is 16.59 acres.
