Wines

At Tarara Winery our wines are about crafting a reflection of the vineyard sites and the vintage while ensuring we maintain a sense of elegance with power and intensity.  We aim to ensure our wines have a sense of "somewhereness" both in location and time.

We source fruit from several vineyards each vintage in our quest to find and utilize the best sites in the Commonwealth of Virginia.  Currently our two main vineyards are Nevaeh and Tranquility.  Nevaeh is our Estate vineyard and Tranquility is a site on which we have an astounding amount of intrigue and respect and therefore have secured with a long term contract.  Other vineyards we use we are constantly auditing to ensure the best varieties are planted for the terroir and that we get a true sense of place.  Above all this, we also want to ensure that everyone involved has the same direction of crafting only the best wines.

Single Vineyard wines are our flagship and tend to be blends to showcase the site and vintage over varietal expression.  This portfolio will continuously expand as we find the best plots of dirt.  Currently the focus is on Nevaeh Red (based mainly on Syrah and Merlot with small portions of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc in vintages that they shine), Nevaeh White (Viognier and Chardonnay) and Tranquility Red (Cabernet Sauvignon and Tannat).

Commonwealth Collection wines are limited release wines that are a selection of our best barrels from our Single Vineyard program.  The wines include CasaNoVA (Nevaeh), TerraNoVA (Tranqulity), SuperNoVA (often a blend of Nevaeh and Tranquility) and BossaNoVA (Syrah from Nevaeh with extended elevage of up to 48 months in barrique).  With the exception of BossaNoVA, the varietal composition changes yearly based on what does best in the Single Vineyards.

Varietal and Non-Traditional Blend wines are about capturing the essence of the given vintage and showcasing how each vintage does work with some of Virginia's top known varieties.  The wines include Charval, Long Bomb, Three Vineyards Chardonnay, Viognier and Cabernet Franc.  Some vintages there is also a Petit Manseng.  Varietal wines are 100%.  The Charval uses several varieties to create complexity and blending options to show the best of a vintage to potentially include:  Chardonnay, Viognier, Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Manseng, and Rkatsetelli.  The Long Bomb is a blend to create a great balance of power and approachability that often includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Tannat.

Winemakers Select wines are crafted in small quantities for our Vine Club and tend to be our most "Out of the Box" thinking style of wines.  These wines can be from a new vineyard that we are excited about, a variety that shines in a given vintage that we normally don't produce or simply a crazy good blend that is obscure to us, but works due to the nature of the vintage.

Boneyard wines are all about no rules, a rebellious feel and well...just being downright delicious and approachable.  These are wines that are meant to reflect our past as we look forward to our future continuing to aim at pioneering new styles and excitement for Virginia wine.
