Tasting Notes:

In case you don’t know, Jordan is crazy obsessed with the Rhone varieties. When given the chance to play with Roussanne and Marsanne he got pretty excited. Not able to grow well here, but in Crawford Vineyard in the Yakima Valley Jordan found awesomely ripening fruit that ended up being even better than expected. Huge bosc pear, honeydew, clover honey and flower notes shoot from the glass of this round and powerful white blend. Sooooo good.

Vineyard Notes:

Both the Marsanne and small amount of Roussanne came from a vineyard in the Walla Walla Valley in Washington State. Being a Rhone fanatic our winemaker Jordan was very excited about the opportunity to work with these incredible grape as neither variety is as well suited to our sites. We worked hard to source the fruit from on the top vineyards we could find on the West Coast and believed that Walla Walla was simply the best place for these great Rhone varieties. The soils for Walla Walla are largely wind swept loam soils. Climatically the vineyards tend to have some of the highest diurnal temperature swings in Washington allowing very hot days to ripen flavors and sugars while the cool to cold nights preserves freshness and acidity. The wine tend to have incredible concentration of fruit showing great varietal character while maintaining a youthful freshness not always associated with its top varieties.

Production Notes:

The Marsanne and Roussanne both were lightly crushed and pressed. The small amount of time on the skins from crushing allowed some aromatic extraction knowing the wine was going to be huge from the high levels of sugars. Juice was simply settled over night before being racked and fermented cool with an average of 58 degrees in all stainless steel. Post fermentation the lots were blended and sat with random lees stirring before being filtered and bottled in June of 2015.

Food Pairing:

This is the type of wine to use with fish or poultry dishes that have rich flavors and textures as well as powerful sides. This is a wine that would be great with Thanksgiving. Don’t want to wait until then?.....Try with some roasted game bird with pan juices served with Pommes Anna.
